Baby Feeding

mother-feeding-babyWhat does feeding mean for a child?

He/she knows more than you think. The child as any person has the instinct of hunger. If he/she is chronically malnourished, he/she will shout, demanding more milk. Believe him/her and talk to the doctor. If he/she does not drink his/her usual portion, do not insist.
Consider that he/she wakes up because he/she is hungry. He avidly catches teat (or dummy) with his/her mouth. Sucking is a serious work for the child. He may even sweat of an effort. If you take away dummy before he/she is satisfied, he/she will indignantly shout. When he/she drinks as much milk as he/she needs, he/she will fall asleep again. Even while sleeping, he/she makes sucking movements, as if he/she is fed. All this constitutes the fact that food is the main joy in his/her life. He/she gets the first view of the life from the environment in which he/she is fed. The first presentation about the people he/she receives from the person who feeds him/her.
If mother constantly insist that the child drinks more milk than he/she wants, he/she will gradually lose his/her appetite. He/she will try to avoid this, sleeping more than before or will protest. If he/she continues in this way, his/her joyful curiosity of life will disappear, as he thinks to himself: “Life is a struggle. These people do not give me rest. I must fight to defend myself”.
So, do not make your child eat more than he/she wants. Let food be a pleasure for him/her and then he/she will feelfeeding-indicatorsthat you are his/her friend. This is very important for the development of his/her self-confidence and cheerfulness, which are very important in the first year of life.
The instinct of sucking. Newborn sucks vigorously for two reasons. First, he/she is hungry, and second, he likes sucking. If you feed him/her enough, but do not give him/her an opportunity to satisfy the demand of sucking, he/she will suck his/her fist or thumb, or clothing.
During the first days after birth, children are losing weight.
Some parents are overly concerned about this phenomenon. It seems unnatural and dangerous to them. They also hear about dehydration in the case of dramatic weight loss. Do not worry. If such a thing happens, the newborn immediately can recover by drinking some water.

Working after Childbirth

working_mother_200-200x0Those days are gone when women just stayed at home, engaged in farming, giving birth and raising children.

Now many of them go to work and not just because of our difficult times of earning a living, but also because the representatives of weak sex have the talent and the ability to make a career. And even after giving birth, women do not want to leave their profession and seek to quickly return to the workplace. How not to feel guilty for an “abandoned” baby?

All the women, who a few months after giving birth, return to work, feel a bit guilty for their children. It is absolutely clear: the child is still very small, and they fear that they deprive their child of their love and care. Therefore, before going to work, try to solve all the problems worrying you.

The kid loves you more than anybody

Mothers need to know that returning to work does not mean that you should stop breastfeeding your child: it is possible to transfer a child to the mixed-feeding or decant the milk and put it in the fridge.
It is understandable that you inhibit the very idea that perhaps you do not see how your baby will say its first words, but do not get upset because of this. Studies have shown that a child’s achievement becomes “real” only after demonstrating it to his mom and she will evaluate it and rejoice with him. So you will still be playing a primary role for your child’s. And it is precisely because of this inextricable link, you will always be the most beloved for him/her, despite the fact that he/she spends most of the day with grandma, nanny or kindergartener.

There is no need to get upset when after returning home from work your child will not talk to you. Your task is to explain the child why you working and that you will always come back to him/her and give him/her having all your free time. So gradually the child will get used to the fact that you are away for a part of the day.

Sometimes, working mothers feel that if they stay at home with their baby, he will develop faster. But this is a totally groundless fear.
In relation to children the most important is not quantity but quality of these relationships: it is important how close you are to your child, whether you understand each other etc. Therefore, if one day you come tired from work, and you cannot force a long time to play with your child and give him affection and attention, as usually, do not blame yourself. If your house has an atmosphere of love and if your child feels your care and understanding, he/she quickly forgets this little episode.

If baby stays with people who he loves, he will get used quickly to your temporary absence, and in the future this experience will help him/her be more independent.

You can go to work, if your child

Is already three months. He is sleeping and taking meals at about the same time, allows strange people to take him in their hands, and it is easy to placate.
Six months. He is sleeping, expresses displeasure when he/she does not like something, and smiles as he/she is pleased.
Nine months. He knows how to play alone; he/she holds a bottle and actively researches all he/she sees with his hands.
Year. He/she understands most of what you say to him, knows how to pronounce some words, and shows finger on things that you show him/her.

Breastfeeding

breast-feedingBoth babies and mothers gain many benefits from breastfeeding. Breast milk is easy to digest and contains antibodies that can protect infants from bacterial and viral infections. Research indicates that women who breastfeed may have lower rates of certain breast and ovarian cancers.

Breastfeeding is an important woman’s issue, human rights issue, health issue and feminist issue. Breastfeeding empowers women. Women who wish to breastfeed their babies but do not, because of inadequate support from family or health workers, constraints in the workplace, or misinformation, often feel guilty because of this failure at something they wanted to do.

Human breast milk is the most healthful form of milk for human babies. There are a few exceptions, such as when the mother is taking certain drugs or is infected with tuberculosis or HIV. Breastfeeding promotes health, helps to prevent disease and reduces health care and feeding costs. In both developing and developed countries, artificial feeding is associated with more deaths from diarrhea in infants. Experts agree that breastfeeding is beneficial, but may disagree about the length of breastfeeding that is most beneficial, and about the risks of using artificial formulas.

Feed your baby as often as he or she wants to be fed. This may be 8 to 12 times a day or more. How often your baby wants to feed may change over time as he or she goes through growth spurts. Growth spurts occur at about 2 and 6 weeks of age and again at about 3 and 6 months of age.

Let your baby nurse until he or she is satisfied. This may be for about 15 to 20 minutes at each breast. Try to have your baby nurse from both breasts at each feeding. The box below lists the signs to watch for so you’ll know your baby is getting enough milk. If you’re nursing fewer than 8 times a day, be especially aware of these signs.
